Elmakeyes was arrested in May 2001 and charged with numerous counts of indecent sexual act against a child and sodomy against children he had convinced to come into his house, including one boy with cognitive delays. When released on bail, he offended against another child.
In 2002 the Ber Sheva district court sentenced him to five years imprisonment, in accordance with a plea deal.
