Steinharter was arrested in 2015 while serving as Rosh Yeshiva of M'orot Natan yeshiva for boys with learning difficulties, in Chashmonaim. He was charged with multiple counts of indecent acts against a male minor. He subsequently pled guilty and was ordered to serve one year in prison.
Prior to founding and running the M'orot Natan yeshiva, Steinharter was a rebbe in Nachmat Tzion, the Shuvu Banim cheder in Jerusalem.
