In 2010 Abutbul (who formerly went by Meir Tal) was convicted of molesting 2 boys he was teaching, and was subsequently sentenced to 15 months in jail and prohibited from being in contact with minors. After his release, he returned to working at the Chabad house of Bat Yam.
